Nashona Fitting
Location: Advent Coworking
933 Louise Ave #1
Charlotte, NC 28204
Time: Sunday, January 6th, 2019
5:00pm - 6:30pm
Designer: Nashona
Stylist: Xavier Williams
The first designer fitting I worked on was Nashona, a designer who specialized in African prints and traditional pieces. The garments were amazing – the attention to detail in construction was phenomenal – and each piece popped with vibrant colors.
For this fitting, I coordinated with Jennifer Michelle and Xavier to determine the right meeting time for all of us, as well as the models, and also to find a location. We finally determined that Sunday, January 6th 5pm to 6:30pm at Advent Coworking on Louise Avenue worked for all of us. Upon entering, we had two meeting rooms booked – one for us and to keep the garments and the second for the models to change in.
From the beginning, Xae had a great vision. He came ready to work with his sewing kit holding all of the necessary supplies. Jennifer gave Xae creative license to do what he thought best and tried to only give a few suggestions here and there. We went through a few looks with the models until we found the perfect ones for each of them, taking into account how they felt in them. We also styled each model with accessories to figure out a way to make it more “casual,” as that was the scene in the show Nashona was walking in.
My responsibilities included note-taking, taking photographs of the models in their looks, and ensuring that we had the right order for the models to impact the collection. During this, Xae had to invisible pin the models inside of the garments because each of our garments was a size medium or large and our models were much smaller. We had a truly collaborative experience during this while making sure each model was 100% styled. We left close to BLANK pm, and I emailed follow-ups to Jennifer & Xae with the model looks and run order.
